The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Telangana unit on Monday (May 11, 2026) sought to distance itself from the POCSO case registered against Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, asserting that the party has no role in the matter.

“Our party has no connection with the case. It is a legal issue, and Mr. Sanjay Kumar has nothing to do with it. He is our leader and a Union Minister. If any member of his family is involved, it will be investigated as per law,” said the State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao at a press conference held on Monday.

He was responding to a query after thanking party cadre for the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting on Sunday. Mr. Kumar has earlier claimed that it was a conspiracy against him by vested interests.

Earlier, Mr. Rao criticised the Congress government. “Like the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime, the Congress government has misled people with fake guarantees. In contrast, Mr. Modi’s guarantee focuses on Telangana’s economic development and employment for youth,” he claimed.

Mr. Rao expressed confidence that the BJP could replicate its electoral successes in other States. “There were sceptics when the party aimed to come to power in West Bengal and elsewhere, but we emerged victorious. A similar outcome is possible in Telangana with the hard work of our cadre and public support,” he said.

The BJP president also dismissed allegations of discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted during the recent Assembly elections. He maintained that “not a single genuine voter” had complained about being removed from the electoral rolls.

“Only deceased persons, those who have shifted, and fake or duplicate entries were removed. The exercise was conducted by the Election Commission with the Supreme Court’s approval. The last SIR was undertaken in 2005, and this clean-up is being carried out after nearly two decades. It is not a BJP programme,” he said, adding that such a revision would be conducted in Telangana as well to eliminate ‘bogus’ voters.

Mr. Rao further alleged that recent Assembly election results reflected the mandate of genuine voters. “This is the victory of real voters, not bogus or illegal ones. The Congress and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy are rattled by the success of the Prime Minister’s public meeting and are making baseless allegations about the SIR,” he said.
