PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said all new roads in Delhi would be covered by a five-year maintenance clause

The Public Works Department (PWD) repaired more than 2,000 potholes across Delhi on Sunday in a special drive ahead of the monsoon, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said.

The Delhi government has launched a series of measures to prepare the Capital for heavy rainfall. These include desilting drains, improving drainage in waterlogging-prone areas and repairing damaged roads. The monsoon, which usually arrives in Delhi by June 27, has been delayed this year.

According to PWD records, 14,757 potholes were identified on roads under the department between January 1 and June 4, 2026. Of these, 12,762 had already been repaired. Sunday’s special drive was launched to cover the remaining locations.

“PWD remains vigilant throughout the year in addressing complaints related to potholes and road maintenance. Our focus is to ensure that roads are in the best possible condition before the rains begin,” Mr. Singh said.

Mr. Singh said road infrastructure must be built on the foundations of quality, accountability and long-term durability. “Many of the potholes being repaired today are on roads constructed several years ago, when quality standards were not adequately maintained. We have strengthened quality-control measures and introduced greater accountability,” he said.

He added that all new roads being built by the PWD would be covered by a five-year maintenance clause, under which contractors would be responsible for rectifying defects during the warranty period.
