West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who is on his first visit to Delhi after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of the State on Friday (May 22, 2026), met President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other key Ministers of the Union Cabinet including Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Minister of West Bengal shared photos of the meetings. “This marks my first Official Meeting with the Hon’ble PM since assuming the responsibility of serving the People of West Bengal as the Chief Minister,” Mr. Adhikari said.

The West Bengal Chief Minister posted on social media that the Prime Minister re-emphasized his vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and reiterated that the development of West Bengal remains a top priority for the Central Government.

Expressing thanks to the Prime Minister for assuring all possible help, guidance, and Central Support, Mr. Adhikari said that it will rescue West Bengal from “years of stagnation and place it firmly on the fast track of economic growth, industrial revival and youth empowerment”.

After meeting the President, the West Bengal Chief Minister posted on social media that people of West Bengal hold her in the highest regard. “ I assure you that upon your next visit to our State, the new Government of West Bengal will leave no stone unturned to erase the painful memories of your past visit, where the then Government of the Day unfortunately attempted to demean your august stature,” Mr. Adhikari said. A controversy had erupted in April 2026 after President Droupadi Murmu had said that she was not granted proper reception during her visit to West Bengal.

The newly appointed Chief Minister also met Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and the office of Vice- President “conveyed his best wishes to Shri Adhikari in his efforts towards taking West Bengal on the path of peace and prosperity and realising the vision of Viksit Bengal and Viksit Bharat”.

Mr. Adhikari also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Home Minister expressed hope that “under the guidance of Modi ji and your leadership, the West Bengal government will continue to work tirelessly with dedication for the welfare of the people of the state and for good governance”.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who while describing Mr. Adhikari as a person of rich political and legislative experience. “I am confident that he will work towards taking West Bengal to greater heights,” Mr. Singh said.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also called on BJP president Nitin Nabin and national general Secretary of the BJP and the Central In-Charge for West Bengal Sunil Bansal.

Mr. Adhikari’s visit to Delhi comes at a time when cabinet expansion is due in West Bengal. Only six ministers, including the Chief Minister, have been sworn in. There are 54 departments in West Bengal and the Chief Minister is holding charge of 42 departments. Mr. Adhikari is likely to have discussed cabinet expansion with senior BJP leaders.

The West Bengal government is also joining several schemes of the Centre, including Ayushman Bharat. A meeting between Union Health Minister J .P. Nadda and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled on Saturday (May 23, 2026).
