A 37-year-old police constable was arrested on Tuesday on charges of making a woman pregnant and forcing her for abortion, near Coimbatore.
The accused has been identified as Udhayakumar of Anaimalai, who was attached to the Karamadai station of the Coimbatore District Police. He was allegedly in a relationship with the survivor from a place near Perur for the past few years. As per the complaint lodged by the woman at the All Women Police Station, Perur, Udhayakumar befriended her by concealing his marital status, police sources said.
The complainant alleged that he sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions, leading to pregnancy. Subsequently, the accused took her to a private hospital and forced her to undergo an abortion, said the sources.
Based on the woman’s complaint, Udhayakumar was arrested on Tuesday. He was produced before a court and was sent to judicial remand.
Though Udhayakumar was transferred from Karamadai station to the South Zone around two months ago, he did not report for duty at the station concerned, police sources added.
