Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) will launch a campaign to ensure that 60% of signboards on shops and commercial establishments on select main roads in the city are in Kannada.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru R. Aishwarya made this statement while chairing a meeting with members of Kannada Jagruthi Samithi here on Monday on effective implementation of Kannada development programmes.
During the meeting, which also discussed the need to ensure public participation in the implementation of the government’s language policy, Ms. Aishwarya directed the officials to organise various programmes, including a “Run for Kannada”, in coordination with members of the Kannada Jagruthi Samithi, to increase the use of Kannada among the public.
She noted that several departments were absent from today’s meeting on Kannada language-related matters and warned that notices would be issued if they failed to attend the next meeting.
She instructed Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director Sudarshan to write to the respective departments to take appropriate action on the issues discussed by the members of the Kannada District Jagruthi Samithi.
Kannada Development Authority nominated-member T. Gururaj said that Kannada should be used at least on one side of traffic rule boards.
