The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track Sessions Court-1, Mangaluru, J.S. Mohana, has sentenced two persons to three months of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a penalty of ₹10,000 for possessing cannabis.
The judge, on Tuesday, passed the order after finding Manoj Kumar, 26, of Panjimogaru, and Mohammad Kalandar, 32, of Manjeshwar in Kerala, guilty of offences under Sections 8(C) and 20(b)(ii)(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
On March 26, the judge allowed a criminal appeal filed by the government and set aside a December 15, 2022 order of the II JMFC Court, Mangaluru, acquitting the two accused. Soon after, the two accused were at large. The police secured them and produced them before the judge on May 18, when the order of sentence was passed.
As per the chargesheet, the police raided a place in Chokkabettu on January 21, 2016 and found Kumar and Kalandar respectively possessing 400 grams and 500 grams of cannabis.
