Elephant Kanjan, which was involved in a clash with another captive elephant, Marthanda, at the Dubare Elephant Camp on Monday, an incident that led to the death of a woman tourist who was caught in the tussle, had earlier been involved in a confrontation with another Dasara elephant, Dhananjaya, during the Dasara festivities in Mysuru on September 20, 2024. This incident had sparked a scare among the passersby.
The Monday’s incident brought back memories of the episode in Mysuru when Dasara elephants, Dhananjaya and Kanjan, clashed during feeding time on the Mysuru Palace premises.
During the incident, Dhananjaya, with a mahout seated atop it, reportedly attempted to attack Kanjan. The latter ran away, with an agitated Dhananjaya chasing it. Kanjan fled through the Eastern Gate of the Mysuru Palace.
However, Dhananjaya stopped midway, averting a direct confrontation between the two elephants. Another mahout later ran after Kanjan and brought it back to the palace premises.
Meanwhile, there were reports that Kanjan had reportedly attacked Dhananjaya at Dubare, though it remains unclear whether that incident occurred before or after the episode in Mysuru.
