Whistle wave swept Tiruchi district on Monday as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay dented the prospects of the two Dravidian majors — the DMK and the AIADMK — by registering stunning victories in six out of the nine Assembly constituencies. 

Mr. Vijay led his party from the front emerging victorious in his maiden electoral contest from the Tiruchi East Assembly constituency in an emphatic manner. The TVK leader, who maintained a lead from the word go, defeated his nearest DMK rival and MLA S. Inigo Irudayaraj by a margin of 27,416 votes when the results were declared.
