Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) on Monday announced its exit from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), stating that the decision was taken in view of the upcoming local body elections.
Speaking to the media in Tirunelveli, TMMK party leader John Pandian said that the party’s decision was based on electoral strategy, and there was no other reason behind the exit.
He added that discussions on future alliances would be decided by the party’s general council ahead of elections.
He further added that a TMMK executive committee meeting was held under the leadership of general secretary Priscilla John Pandian, during which several resolutions were passed, including the decision to exit the NDA. However the party will maintain friendly relations with the alliance.
