Gold jewelleries weighing 13 sovereigns and ₹12 lakh cash were allegedly stolen from a locked house in Kanniyakumari after a break-in.

According to police, the complainant P. Muthulakshmi, 52 from Swaminathapuram in Kanniyakumari, had locked her house on May 1 and gone to attend a temple festival in Vadakkankulam. When she returned home after the festival on Saturday ( May 2), she found that the back side door of the house had been broken open. Unidentified persons had entered the house and stolen ₹12 lakh in cash and 13 sovereigns of gold jewellery kept in the puja room.

Shocked by the incident, Mutulakshmi lodged a complaint with Kanniyakumari police station on Saturday. A case has been registered and further investigations are under way to arrest the accused.
