Ground-water table has fallen in over 13 revenue sub-blocks of the district, and the district administration is trying to address the matter. On Thursday (May 14), District Collector R. Sadheesh chaired a consultative meeting on rainwater harvesting and climate-change induced El Nino impact on weather.
The meeting with various departments assessed the rainwater harvesting infrastructure on all government buildings. The departments have been instructed to set up rainwater harvesting ahead of the monsoons. According to the District Collector, rainwater harvesting structures on all government buildings can help collect 1 crore litres of water.

Also, the Department of Rural Development had planted 4,13,000 saplings as part of climate change-mitigation measures. These saplings have now grown into trees and are being maintained.
For the current fiscal, over 4,40,000 saplings have been raised in the nursery and are waiting to be planted. These saplings will be watered and maintained for a period of three years.
The Collector urged the staff of the 63 Departments in the district to support the various climate change-mitigation measures.
