Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday called upon citizens to adopt responsible spending practices and support national economic stability by following the seven-point advisory issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its potential impact on India’s economy.

The State government would hold consultations within two days and announce a detailed action plan aimed at implementing similar measures in Andhra Pradesh, he said.

Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the BISER Skill University and KIMS Hospital in Amaravati, the Chief Minister said the prevailing geopolitical situation was exerting fiscal pressure on the country, particularly on fuel imports and foreign exchange reserves. He stressed that governments and citizens alike must respond responsibly to navigate the emerging economic challenges.

Mr. Naidu urged people to adopt a ‘My Nation, My Responsibility’ approach and be prepared to accept temporary inconveniences in the larger national interest.

Mr. Naidu said reducing consumption of petrol and diesel would significantly help conserve valuable foreign exchange reserves, especially at a time when global uncertainties were affecting energy markets. He observed that practices such as work from home should be encouraged wherever feasible.

He also stated that the State government was exploring similar cost-saving measures within its departments. He called for curbing wasteful expenditure and urged the public representatives to lead by example by reducing the size of their convoys and rationalising security arrangements wherever possible.

The Chief Minister also advised against unnecessary foreign travel and encouraged citizens to prioritise domestic tourism. Both India and Andhra Pradesh offer several world-class destinations, and spending within the country would strengthen the domestic economy, he said.

Referring to Mr. Modi’s appeal on gold purchases, Mr. Naidu said excessive gold imports place additional strain on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

Suggesting that farmers reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, he said that natural farming doesn't require chemical fertilizers, but ensures comfortable yields.

Assuring support for the establishment of BISER, Mr. Naidu instructed that the management should complete it within a year. The Skill University is committed to producing one lakh skilled persons.
