A writ petition filed by 16 families whose properties were damaged in the firecracker blast in a thickly populated residential area at Choorakkadu near Thripunithura in 2024 remains pending before the Kerala High Court.
The court has since referred the matter for mediation. Two rounds of mediation have been held, but no consensus has been reached between the parties.
The blast ripped through a stockpile of firecrackers “illegally stored” by the Vadakkumbaghom Karayogam for a fireworks display at the Puthiyakavu Bhagavathy Temple on February 12, 2024. It caused damage of varying degrees to 312 households in the neighbourhood.
