Distributing sweets and bursting crackers marked the celebrations of the swearing-in ceremony of the Tamilaga Vetri Kalagam (TVK) leaders here in Madurai on Sunday.
Even as the party president C. Joseph Vijay took the oath as the Chief Minister, the cadres here danced to the popular numbers of the actor-turned-politician. From the morning, the functionaries assembled at vantage locations including Kalavasal, Periyar bus stand, Iyer bungalow junction, Maatuthavani MGR bus stand and among others.
The party functionaries stopped many motorists and offered them sweets. Some of them even boarded the waiting TNSTC buses at the intersections and gave them ‘laddus’. The womenfolk were seen waving the party flags and dancing to the tunes which repeatedly played the song from the yet-to-be released ‘Jananayagan’ film.

A senior woman sporting the party flag around her neck said, “On this important day, I pray to the God to bless the CM (Vijay) with good health and hope he does good for the people of Tamil Nadu....”
A few other women joined and went on saying in a charged-up tone “Goddess Meenakshi will bless our Thalapathi with strength to overcome the challenges ahead of him,” they said.
The police had a tough time in regulating the crowd in many locations as the jubilant party men burst crackers on the road, which took many by surprise and had to run to safety.
There were also special prayers offered at key shrines by the followers during the day.
Meanwhile, two MLA elect (from southern districts representing Thiruparankundram and Sivakasi Assembly Constituency) C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and S. Keerthana took oath as ministers in the cabinet came as a double delight. They hoped another two or three more MLA elects would get a berth in the cabinet soon, they added.
