Hundreds of devotees on Tuesday witnessed the ‘Thirukalyanam’, the celestial wedding of Goddess Abirami Amman and Lord Padmagreeswarar at Sri Abirami Amman Temple in Dindigul, on the 10th day of the annual Chithirai festival.

The ‘Thirukalyanam’ took place between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on the temple premises. It was followed by the ‘maha deeparadhanai’. Women devotees, who gathered on the temple premises in large numbers replaced their ‘thali’ with a new one as per tradition. It is believed that the ritual strengthens the marital bond.
