The Bar Associations of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday strongly condemned the recent incident at the High Court of Andhra Pradesh where a young advocate was reportedly humiliated and threatened with remand for his conduct during the course of hearing in a case by High Court Judge Tarlada Rajasekhara Rao.
The Bar Associations, in a joint statement, said the dignity of the advocates was inseparable from the dignity of the judiciary itself and urged all Constitutional Courts to ensure that judicial discipline was exercised with restraint, proportionality and due regard to the dignity of the members of the Bar.
The Bar Associations called upon judicial institutions to evolve effective mechanisms for preserving healthy and respectful Bar-Bench relationship. “We stand in solidarity with advocates and associations across the country who seek a professional atmosphere rooted in mutual respect and constitutional values”, the Bar Associations said.
