Chief Minister and AINRC founder N. Rangasamy has resigned from the Thattanchavady Assembly seat, retaining the Mangalam constituency.
Mr. Rangasamy submitted his resignation letter to Secretary of the Legislative Assembly J. Dayalane on Sunday, sources said.
The Chief Minister had contested from Thattanchavady in the town and Mangalam in the rural area of Puducherry in the recently concluded Assembly elections. He won both the seats by a good margin. As per Assembly rules, a member elected from multiple constituencies should hold one seat and resign from others within 14 days.
He retained the Thattanchavady seat by defeating his immediate rival E. Vinayagam of Neyam Makkal Kazhagam, a Puducherry based political outfit which fought the 2026 Assembly polls in alliance with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, by a margin of 4,441 votes. Mr. Rangasamay secured 10,024 votes while Mr. Vinayagam got 5,583 votes.
In the Mangalam Assembly segment, the Chief Minister defeated DMK’s S. S. Rangan by a margin of over 7,000 votes. Mr. Rangasamy secured 17,917 votes while Mr. Rangan garnered 10,867 votes.
