With the monsoon approaching, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy has ordered a survey of unsafe and dilapidated buildings to prevent rain-related mishaps and ensure public safety.

The direction was issued during a District Disaster Management Authority meeting held here on Wednesday, where Mr. Reddy instructed all departments to immediately identify buildings under their jurisdiction that are in a weakened or dangerous condition and submit detailed reports to his office within two days.

Taking a stern view of the issue, he warned officials that they would be held accountable if any dilapidated structure collapses during heavy rain or strong winds, leading to casualties or damage.

He directed departments to prepare a comprehensive list of unsafe structures and place them before the Disaster Management Committee so that necessary measures, including demolition or removal, could be taken up using departmental funds.

Special attention was also sought for heritage buildings showing signs of deterioration. Mr. Reddy instructed officials to obtain structural stability certificates from the Public Works Department and submit the findings to the district administration for further action.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Yukesh Kumar, Fire Officer Gururaj, Deputy Director of Horticulture Manjunath Angadi and other officials were present at the meeting.
