A rights body in Manipur has opposed a government notification implementing Section 43A of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, allowing lower-ranked law enforcement officers to arrest, search, and seize across the State with immediate effect.
In a statement on Thursday (April 23, 2026), the Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) called for the withdrawal of the “shocking” notification, which permits officers not below the rank of head constable or havildar, in both civil and armed police, to exercise powers on behalf of the designated Authority.
