Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) V. Vaithilingam has resigned from the post of president of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee taking moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in the Puducherry Assembly elections.
In a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the MP said he was taking full responsibility for the defeat in the elections. He has expressed his desire to work as an ordinary worker of the party.
The Congress party’s tally had come down from two seats to one in the Assembly. Mr. Vaithilingam himself was defeated while contesting against AINRC founder N. Rangasamy from Thattanchavady constituency.
Mr. Vaithilingam was pushed to the fourth position even going behind an Independent candidate in the constituency. Several other candidates have also lost their deposit in the polls.
