TVK’s Villivakkam candidate Aadhav Arjuna, on Monday (April 13, 2026), submitted a complaint to the Chennai District Election Office, alleging that ₹10,000 in cash was being distributed to voters in the area by Corporation councillors and DMK party members.

In the complaint, he alleged that DMK candidate Karthik Mohan was “openly distributing ₹10,000 in cash to each voter, with the assistance of Corporation councillor K.P. Jain of ward 94 and DMK ward 97 Area Secretary Vasu.”

Pointing to violations of election laws and the Model Code of Conduct, Mr. Arjuna further said that “large-scale distribution of unaccounted cash, running into several crores, was being carried out by the candidate and his agents without apparent restraint or fear of authorities, despite the presence of election authorities.”

“If these illegal activities continue unchecked, it would make a mockery of the democratic process and there will not be a level playing field for all the candidates. Additionally, our party workers who attempted to prevent such unlawful practices have been subjected to threats and criminal intimidation by rowdy elements, engaged by Mr. Karthik Mohan, K.P. Jain, and Mr. Vasu,” he said.

Alleging that more than ₹100 crore of cash had been brought into the constituency and safely kept at the residence of DMK party functionaries, Mr. Arjuna said the District Election Officials must strengthen surveillance and monitoring mechanism in the area.

“The Chennai District Election Office should direct the law enforcement authorities, including the police, to take prompt and appropriate action against those involved, to prevent the open distribution of cash for votes.”

The candidate also urged the authorities to publicise the contact details of the Election Commission’s expenditure monitoring and surveillance teams.
