Roads and Buildings (R&B) Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy stressed the need for children and students to create awareness among parents regarding the issue plastic usage. The Minister was participating in the ‘Swarna Andhra - Swachha Andhra’ programme held at the old police quarters in Banaganapalle on Saturday.

In line with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision and the goal of ‘Swarna Andhra 2047’, the government is organising the ‘Swachh Divas’ programme across the State on the third Saturday of every month, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said.

On the occasion, students organised a rally in Banaganapalle and formed a human chain to raise awareness about the hazards of plastic use and the benefits of planting trees. Students, teachers, officials from various departments, and the general public participated in large numbers in the anti-plastic rally and later took the ‘Swarna Andhra - Swachha Andhra’ pledge along with the Minister.

The Minister personally joined the sanitation workers to clear garbage in Banaganapalle and also briefed them on the precautions to be taken during garbage collection and management. He said that the government had set up a compact waste processing unit at a cost of ₹65 lakhs and had also established a dumping yard 5 km away from Banaganapalle.

“We must work together to avoid plastic, which has become an integral part of our daily lives. There is a need to create greater public awareness about this initiative,” he said, adding that the cleanliness must begin from our own homes.
