The United Democratic Front’s vision of building a ‘Puthuyuga Keralam’ (new-age Kerala) is reflected in its slogan for the State-level Praveshanotsavam this year – ‘Padham 1 Puthuyuga Vidyalayam’ (schools of the new era). Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan will inaugurate the Praveshanotsavam at Government Model Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattom, on June 1.

Minister for General Education N. Samsudheen will preside over the inaugural function, to be held at 9.30 a.m. Minister for Health K. Muraleedharan and Minister for Transport C.P. John and other people’s representatives will attend the function. Mayor V.V. Rajesh will be a special guest. Shashi Tharoor, MP, will speak.

General Education Principal Secretary Sharmila Mary Joseph, Director of General Education Asif K. Yusuf, district panchayat president V. Priyadarshini, and District Collector Anu Kumari will be present. On the occasion, Mr. Shamsudheen will gift sweets to students newly enrolled in Class I.

A 101-member organising committee has been formed for the smooth conduct of the event, with the Mayor as chairperson, Corporation education standing committee chairperson Chempazhanthy Udayan as vice-chairperson, and deputy director of education Sreeja Gopinath as general convener.

District Praveshanotsavams

Along with the State-level function, Pravesanotsavams will be held in all government and aided schools across the State. District-level inaugurations will be conducted in schools with classes from I to XII, attended by Ministers, people’s representatives, and cultural and education activists. Block and panchayat-level inaugurations will also be organised. New students are to be welcomed with appropriate programmes without incurring additional expenses. A green protocol will be followed at all levels of arrangement. Participation of people’s representatives, local self-government institutions, and teachers’ organisations will be ensured, while rallies involving children will be avoided.
