A nearly one-year-old female leopard was rescued from a toilet at S.V. Veterinary University (SVVU) Clinical Complex on Monday (May 25, 2026) morning. It was then shifted to the Animal Rescue Centre at S.V. Zoological Park in Tirupati for observation and further care.
“The rescue operation was conducted under the supervision of Tirupati Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Y. Srinivasa Reddy and other officials,” S.V. Zoological Park Curator Anurag Meena said in a statement.
“All protocols have been followed to ensure the safety of the animal and the personnel involved. The animal is being closely monitored by the veterinary team at S.V. Zoological Park. Further updates on the health status and condition of the leopard will be provided in due course,” the statement added.
A team from the Healing And Nurturing Units for Monitoring, Aid and Nursing of Wildlife (HANUMAN) Project, a State government initiative to address human-wildlife conflict, took part in the rescue operation.

“We have successfully rescued the leopard without tranquilisation and with zero disturbance. This operation reflects our commitment towards both public safety and wildlife conservation,” the team posted on X.

“Under the directions of Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, the rescue operation was carried out with utmost care ensuring the safety of students, staff and the animal itself. The leopard has been safely shifted for medical examination,” the team said.

Mr. Pawan Kalyan, who also holds the Forests and Environment portfolio, took stock of the operation over phone from Rajamahendravaram, the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office said on X. Senior Forest Department officials told him that the leopard was hiding in a room that was not in use and that the staff had reached the spot.

He directed them to follow the prescribed guidelines, capture the animal and release it into a forest area, and to seek the help of zoo staff, the post said. He said the public need not be anxious about the leopard’s movement and that security measures were being enforced.
