The NTR Commissionerate traffic police have intensified checking of the fitness of school and college buses ahead of the reopening of the educational institutions after summer vacation.
Teams led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shareen Begum inspected the school buses at various locations on Saturday. “The Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), Circle Inspectors, SIs and other officers are verifying the fitness certificates, permits, pollution, insurance, driving license, health condition of the drivers and other documents,” Ms. Shareen Begum said.
The DCP instructed the drivers not to overload the buses, keep the vehicles fit, maintain first-aid kits and fire fighting equipment in the vehicles.
“Stern action will be taken against the drivers as well as the managements of the educational institutions if the drivers resort to drunk and negligent driving. The managements should appoint cleaners for the buses,” Ms. Shareen Begum said.
The drive was being conducted for the safety of children. The special drive will continue, she said and appealed to the parents to check the condition of the buses before admitting their wards in schools and colleges.
