Workers covered under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme have been urged to utilise the annual medical screening facility being conducted at the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital on Poondi Ring Road in Tiruppur.
The medical screening initiative is part of the nationwide annual health check-up programme launched under the new labour codes for workers aged 40 years and above.
The programme was launched by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on May 7 at the ESIC Medical College and Hospital in New Delhi.
According to ESIC officials, the annual medical examinations aim to facilitate early detection of diseases, preventive healthcare and continuous medical monitoring for workers covered under the ESI scheme. Treatment and medicines will be provided through ESIC medical facilities.
Under the new labour framework, workers engaged in hazardous occupations, including those handling chemicals, toxic substances and heavy machinery, will also undergo mandatory medical examinations irrespective of age.
M. Karthikeyan, Deputy Director in-charge of the ESIC Sub-Regional Office, Coimbatore, appealed to insured workers to make use of the annual medical examination available at the Tiruppur ESIC Hospital. He also urged employers under the ESI scheme to encourage their workers to participate in the medical screening camps.
