Kozhikode registers 99.36% pass in SSLC exams
2026-05-15 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

The Kozhikode Revenue District registered a 99.36% pass percentage in the SSLC examinations this year, marginally lower than the 99.67% recorded in the 2024–25 academic year. With the latest results announced by General Education Principal Secretary Sharmila Mary Joseph on Friday (May 15, 2026), Kozhikode slipped to the ninth position among districts in terms of overall pass percentage after having been among the top five districts last year.

A total of 43,045 students, including 22,098 boys and 20,947 girls, appeared for the examinations this year. Of them, 42,770 students qualified for higher studies, including 21,920 boys and 20,850 girls.

Last year, 43,697 out of 43,841 students who appeared for the examinations were eligible for higher studies. Education department sources said the pattern of examination was different in 2026. The question papers were set in such a way that only students with a thorough understanding of the textbook lessons could achieve top scores, they said.

The district recorded 4,114 students securing A+ grades in all subjects this year, a sharp decline from the 7,410 A+ holders reported in 2024-25. Girls continued to outperform boys in the A+ category, with 2,711 girls and 1,403 boys securing top grades this year. In the previous year, 4,971 girls and 2,439 boys had A + grades.

Among the education districts, Vadakara accounted for 1,586 A+ holders, followed closely by Thamarassery with 1,528 students. The Kozhikode education district recorded 946 A+ holders. GHSS Naduvannur emerged as the government school with the largest batch of candidates, all of whom secured eligibility for higher studies.

According to officials, more than 25 government schools in Kozhikode district achieved a 100% success rate, with all students securing eligibility for higher studies. In the aided sector too, more than 35 schools secured the distinction of having all their students become eligible for higher studies, they said.
