Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) is keen on taking up several developmental activities in Vizianagaram district in the backdrop of the construction of the international airport at Bhogapuram on the Visakhapatnam-Srikakulam highway.
Owing to its strategic location connecting the three districts, Bhogapuram is expected to emerge as an economic hub in future. In this context, the VMRDA has asked the Vizianagaram district administration to acquire around 2,000 acres near Gudepuvalasa and Munjeru villages, located close to the airport, which is expected to be ready by August 2026.
During his recent visits to the Fort City, VMRDA Commissioner Tej Bharat told Vizianagaram District Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy and Joint Collector Sedhu Madhavan that the authority would take up multiple developmental activities in and around the airport region. He said there would be huge demand for star hotels, multiplexes, parks and shopping malls if they are developed near the international airport.
According to him, residential areas could also be developed if land is made available near the airport. A dedicated road network from Vizianagaram to Bhogapuram has also been proposed to ensure quicker travel for air passengers coming from Saluru, Bobbili, Parvatipuram and other places.
Mr. Bharat also promised to develop new parks and indoor stadiums in the Fort City if vacant land is allocated by the district administration. Vizianagaram District Revenue Officer Ch. Sattibabu, Revenue Divisional Officer S. Sudha Sagar and other senior officials assured him that they would identify vacant land and submit a report to the VMRDA through the Collector’s office.
