The police have registered a case against a private hospital in Kannur over alleged medical negligence that reportedly left a 40-year-old timber loading worker partially disabled with severe injuries to both arms.
The case was registered by Kannur Town Police following a complaint filed by Jinesh Jose, a native of Arivalappoyil near Udayagiri. According to the complaint, Mr. Jose lost movement in both hands after he was allegedly restrained during treatment at the hospital.
Mr. Jose had approached the hospital on March 1 after developing fever symptoms. His family alleged that he was later shifted to the intensive care unit. Hospital authorities reportedly informed the bystander accompanying him that he had become violent and required restraint during treatment, and obtained signed consent before proceeding.
Relatives alleged that Mr. Jose lost consciousness during the week-long treatment. They further claimed that he was later shifted from the hospital to another hospital in Mangaluru in an ICU-equipped ambulance while both his hands and legs remained tied to the stretcher. It was only after reaching Mangaluru that family members noticed severe wounds under both armpits, allegedly caused by the restraints.
The family has raised serious allegations regarding the treatment provided at the hospital and has submitted complaints to the Chief Minister and the Human Rights Commission seeking intervention. Mr. Jose is currently undergoing Ayurvedic treatment.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
