The Congress has retained both the Davangere South and Bagalkot Assembly seats in the byelections, which witnessed intense campaigning with Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Union Ministers and a host of senior leaders of Congress, BJP, and JD(S) actively involving themselves in it.
In Bagalkot, Umesh Hullappa Meti of the Congress secured 98,919 votes as against 76,587 by Veerabhadrayya (Veeranna) Charanthimath of the BJP, registering a victory by a margin of 22,332 votes. However, it was a bit tough for Samarth Mallikarjun of the Congress in Davangere South.
