Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) Managing Director V. Ram Prasath Manohar has directed officials to complete the work on the 400 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) sub-station coming up at Kushtagi in Koppal district by March 2027, describing the project as crucial for transmitting renewable energy generated in North Karnataka to other parts of the State and the country.

Mr. Manohar visited the project site at Kushtagi on Thursday and reviewed the progress of work.

Following the inspection, he instructed officials to ensure the timely completion of the project which is expected to play a key role in integrating large volumes of solar and wind energy into the State grid.

Later in the day, he chaired a high-level coordination meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Koppal with Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal, Superintendent of Police Ram L. Arasiddi and officials from various departments participating in it.

During the meeting, Mr. Manohar emphasised that the Doni-Kushtagi feeder line is vital for charging and commissioning the new sub-station.

He said that the transmission corridor will serve as the lifeline for green energy evacuation and that the sub-station can become operational only after work on the feeder line is completed.

Pointing out that Right of Way (RoW) issues have stalled progress in certain stretches of the transmission line, he issued a three-month deadline to engineering teams to clear all hurdles.

He also directed the district administration and the police authorities to extend all necessary administrative and security support for resolving land acquisition and RoW-related issues at the earliest.

“The sub-station works are progressing at a good pace. However, the facility cannot function without the feeder line. The Doni-Kushtagi transmission line is the backbone of this green energy transportation network. We will closely monitor the resolution of all RoW issues over the next three months and ensure that the project is commissioned within the stipulated timeline,” he said.

Mr. Manohar noted that once commissioned, the sub-station will serve as a major gateway for transmitting renewable energy generated by solar and wind power projects in the region to the State’s main power grid.

He said that the Kushtagi 400 kV sub-station and the associated Doni-Kushtagi transmission line will significantly strengthen the power infrastructure of the Kalyana Karnataka region and support the State government’s efforts to expand renewable energy integration.

Quoting Energy Minister K.J. George as saying, officials said that the project will be instrumental in accelerating Karnataka’s transition towards a green energy future. The Minister has stressed the importance of expediting transmission infrastructure projects and ensuring close coordination between KPTCL and district administrations for their timely completion.

Mr. Manohar expressed the confidence that the project will be fully operational by March 2027 through coordinated efforts between KPTCL and the district administration.
