Tragedy struck Ukkunagaram township on Wednesday morning when an employee of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited -Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL-VSP) lost his life after accidentally falling from a tree, according to sources from the steel plant.

The deceased, identified as Appala Reddy, was working as a technician in the Steel Melt Shop-2 (SMS-2) department of the plant.

The sources said that the incident occurred at his residential quarters in Sector-9 of the steel plant township. Reddy had climbed a mango tree in his courtyard to pluck fruits when he lost his balance and fell to the ground, sustaining severe injuries.

He was immediately rushed to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant General Hospital by family members and neighbours for emergency first aid. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to KIMS Hospital for advanced medical management. However, he succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.

Colleagues and members of the steel plant workforce expressed deep shock and condolences over the technician’s sudden and tragic demise.
