A 27-year-old man was found dead in a swimming pool during a team outing at a farmhouse in Choutuppal on Saturday night, with police registering a case following a complaint from his father, who suspected foul play.
The deceased was identified as Gandla Ramu, an employee of Ascent Business Solutions in Uppal. According to the police, around 20 employees, accompanied by their team leader, had gathered at the farmhouse for a party.
During the outing, the group consumed liquor. Police said Ramu and a colleague, Sai Krishna, allegedly had an altercation during the gathering. Later, at around 1 a.m., Ramu was found lying in the swimming pool.
His colleagues immediately pulled him out and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but he could not be revived.
Based on preliminary findings and the postmortem examination, police said Ramu died due to drowning. Investigators stated there were no ligature marks or any visible signs of physical assault on the body.
However, police said it was yet to be determined whether the drowning was accidental or if any other circumstances contributed to the death. The investigation is continuing from all angles.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, who expressed suspicion over the circumstances leading to his son’s death, police registered a case and began an inquiry.
Officials said they would also write to the Excise Department seeking details regarding the consumption of liquor at the farmhouse as part of the investigation.
