Cyberabad police on alert amid heavy rainfall, waterlogging concernsIn view of ongoing rains, special teams have been stationed at major junctions, high-traffic corridors and areas vulnerable to waterlogging to regulate vehicular movement and prevent congestion across Cyberabad.
Personnel from the law and order and traffic wings have been working on the ground to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and assist commuters and ensure public safety, particularly in low-lying and waterlogged areas. Police teams are alerting the public to potential hazards and advising them to avoid entering inundated stretches and other risky locations.

Lakes filled with treated water may lead to floods as monsoon arrives, caution activists
With the monsoon having set in, lake conservation activists and experts in the city have raised concerns over several lakes being filled with treated water, warning that this could lead to flooding in some areas.
As part of an effort to improve groundwater levels in the city following the severe water shortage in summer 2024, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been filling many lakes with secondary treated water. So far, BWSSB has filled 23 lakes, including the ones in Kengeri, Ullal, Madavara, Herohalli, Jakkur, Rachenahalli and Allalasandra. Work is on to fill another 40 lakes, including Hebbal, Nagavara, Doddabidarakallu, Mahadevapura, Sheelavanta and Sadaramangala.

Uttar Pradesh | Couple, daughter killed as roof collapses during rain in Kasganj
Three members of a family — a couple and their four-year-old daughter — were killed after the roof of their house collapsed amid heavy rain and storm in Kasganj, officials said today.
According to the district administration, the incident occurred yesterday in Sheikhupura village under the jurisdiction of the Sidhpura area, while the family members were sleeping inside the house, trapping all occupants under the debris.
Officials said police and administrative teams pulled out the bodies from under the debris and sent them for post-mortem examination.
District Magistrate Pranay Singh said the injured children were undergoing treatment and their condition is stable. He said the administration arranged for their treatment, food and other essential requirements.

Karnataka | CM D.K. Shivakumar reviews monsoon preparedness with district officials
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar today chaired a review meeting at the Vidhana Soudha with Deputy Commissioners, Chief Executive Officers and Superintendents of Police from districts across the state to assess key administrative and governance-related issues.
Strengthening preparedness ahead of the monsoon season was one of the focal points discussed during the meeting.
During the review, the Chief Minister examined various issues concerning governance and public administration and issued necessary directions to officials to ensure effective coordination, smooth functioning of government machinery and timely delivery of public services.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm forecast in 11 Telangana districts for tomorrow.
According to IMD’s latest bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur at isolated places in Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet and Mahabubabad districts.

West Bengal | Active monsoon to bring heavy rain in sub-Himalayan region of Bengal, says IMD
An active southwest monsoon over sub-Himalayan West Bengal will bring heavy rain to the region over the next one week, the IMD said today.
Thunderstorms are likely over the southern districts of the State, where the monsoon has also advanced, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
In Kolkata, the weather is set to be cooler, making life a bit easier for the people of the metropolis after high temperatures during the day, coupled with high humidity, made life miserable.
While downpour is likely over the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar for the next one week, very heavy rainfall may occur in isolated places on June 16 and 17, 2026, the IMD said.

Telengana | Father, teenage daughter electrocuted while trying to move car after tree fall in Secunderabad
A 44-year-old man and his 16-year-old daughter were electrocuted in Secunderabad in the early today after they stepped out of their home to move their car away from a tree that had fallen during heavy rain.
According to police, a tree collapsed in front of the family’s house amid heavy rain. Sandeep, his wife Swetha and their daughter came out of the house to move their car away from the fallen tree.
While doing so, Swetha noticed an electric wire hanging on the road and attempted to move it away from the vehicle. She received an electric shock and fell to the ground. As Sandeep got out of the car to help, another live wire fell on Ritika, electrocuting her.

Centre suspends Cell Broadcasting Services
After the successful trial run and subsequent operationalisation of the Cell Broadcast system, a mobile-based disaster warning system introduced by the Union Government, the Centre has suspended Cell Broadcast Services from June 12 without citing any specific reasons.
An order issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on June 12 stated that, due to certain issues flagged by the competent authorities, the Cell Broadcast Service is being kept on hold until further instructions.

Kerala | Three northern districts on yellow alert
Isolated heavy rainfall is likely to continue over a few districts in Kerala over the weekend, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) update on the southwest monsoon rainfall indicated yesterday.
Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod are on yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall today. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur are on yellow alert tomorrow. All other districts can expect light to moderate rainfall on the two days.

Tamil Nadu | Upper air cyclonic system to bring rains to several districts
An upper air cyclonic circulation over north coastal Tamil Nadu is expected to bring heavy rains to several districts in the State.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds reaching speed upto 40-50 kmph is likely at isolated places over Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Kanyakumari and ghat areas of Tirunelveli districts.
Accordingly, the maximum temperature is expected to drop by two degree celsius in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

It was a sunny morning in the national capital today and the minimum temperature settled at 21.4 degrees Celsius, 6.6 notches below the season’s average, officials said.

Delhi | Coolest June day so far recorded as rain, storms bring relief from heat
Rain and thunderstorm activity brought temperatures down sharply across Delhi on June 12, making it the coolest day of June so far, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more thunderstorms, rain and gusty winds through today.
The maximum temperature at Safdarjung, the city’s base station, settled at 34.6 degrees Celsius, 5.3 degrees Celsius below normal and 4.1 degrees Celsius lower than the previous day. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.8 degrees Celsius, 5.2 degrees Celsius below normal and 7.2 degrees Celsius lower than a day earlier.

Delhi | IMD issues red alert for thunderstorms, lightning
Delhi has been placed under a red alert for last night as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of moderate thunderstorms, lightning and squally winds reaching 60-70 kmph, gusting up to 80 kmph, across the city.
The weather office said that very light to light rain is likely at most places, while isolated areas may receive moderate rainfall.
A red alert signifies the need to take action and follow safety advisories issued by authorities.
