A six-year-old boy who was swept away in a forest stream near Thalavadi following heavy rain on Sunday (May 24, 2026) evening was found dead after an intensive overnight search operation on Monday (May 25).
The deceased was identified as R. Madhan Karthik, a Class II student from Diginarai village near Thalavadi. According to the police, the boy had gone near a stream that was overflowing due to heavy rain in the region. When he did not return home for a long time, his parents and relatives searched for him near the stream but were unable to trace him. Suspecting that he had been swept away in the flash flood, they alerted the Thalavadi police.
Police personnel, local residents, and members of the Hasanur Fire and Rescue Services department launched a search operation. Rescue efforts continued late into the night despite strong water flow and poor visibility. The search operation was later suspended and resumed on Monday morning.
The boy’s body was recovered from the stream in the morning and sent to the Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam for post-mortem examination.
