Two persons were arrested for allegedly attempting to pledge fake gold ornaments at a bank in Secretariat Colony, a scheme through which they had previously cheated several banks, according to the police.
The police said Kumaran, 27, of Senthil Nagar in Thirumullaivoyal, worked as a gold appraiser at the Indian Overseas Bank in Kellys. On Friday afternoon, two persons — Rajesh Tiwari Soni and Tamilselvan — approached the bank to pledge gold ornaments weighing about 15.4 g.
During verification, Kumaran found that the ornaments were fake. Based on his complaint, the crime wing of the Secretariat Colony Police Station registered a case for offences such as cheating.
The police arrested Rajesh Tiwari Soni, 54, of Kondithope, and Tamilselvan, 48, of Pulianthope. They seized the fake gold-plated ornaments and a two-wheeler from the accused.
