The Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) commissioned a 150 kW solar rooftop plant at its Visakhapatnam head office on Thursday (May 7, 2026).
Managing Director and CEO Captain S. Divakar formally commissioned the facility, which was set up under the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar Yojana.
The project was earlier inaugurated on March 29, 2026, by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal as part of the corporation’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The plant is expected to generate about 750 units of clean energy a day, totalling 2.7 lakh units a year. The corporation is projected to save about ₹2.5 lakh a month, or roughly ₹30 lakh a year, by reducing its reliance on conventional power.
The project is expected to avoid an estimated 220 to 240 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, equivalent to planting more than 10,000 trees or removing about 50 passenger vehicles from the road.
The project was executed by Ledure Lightings Limited, with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited as the implementation partner, in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Captain Divakar said the commissioning reflected DCIL’s commitment to national renewable energy priorities and its strategy on energy efficiency.
