Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday (June 15, 2026) urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to convene a high-level meeting of police officers and issue directions to regional and district-level officers to prevent the deterioration of the law-and-order situation in the State.

Reacting to the killing of a three-year-old child following an alleged sexual assault near Gummidipoondi, Mr. Udhayanidhi claimed such incidents were once associated with “certain northern parts of the country.” “But they have now become the order of the day in Tamil Nadu,” he said in a social media post.

He alleged Mr. Vijay, who had used children and women extensively in his election campaign, had failed to ensure their safety.

“In Salem, members of his party allegedly sexually exploited over 500 women; in Alandur, another party functionary allegedly misbehaved with a widow; and in Sivaganga, a woman police constable was allegedly subjected to sexual assault,” he alleged.

Mr. Udhayanidhi said even though more than a month had passed since the government assumed office, no effective measures had been taken to maintain law and order, which, he claimed, was “on a ventilator.”

“He [Mr. Vijay] should spare some attention for law and order when he finds time from purchasing members of other parties,” he said.

Mr. Udhayanidhi also warned if such crimes continued to occur in the State, he would seek permission from the DMK party leadership and launch a protest.
