The Election Commission of India (EC) on Friday (April 10, 2026) ordered the immediate transfer of Greater Chennai Commissioner of Police A. Arun and posting of Additional Director General of Police Abhin Dinesh Modak in his place.

Mr. Modak took charge of his new assignment in the evening. The EC directed that Mr. Arun should not be posted in any election-related posts till the completion of the Assembly election.

Earlier this month, the EC had appointed Director-General of Police (DGP) Sandeep Rai Rathore to head the State police force, replacing G. Venkatraman, the in-charge DGP/Head of the Police Force (HoPF).

On Wednesday (April 8, 2026), for the first time in Tamil Nadu, the EC ordered the transfer of Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam and ordered the posting of M. Sai Kumar in his place.
