To streamline tracking of commercial assets and revenue across its network, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is set to introduce the Commercial Asset Management Platform (CAMP).
According to officials, the digital system will centralise data on non-fare revenue sources such as commercial stalls, open spaces, advertisement spaces, towers and other assets. BMTC, which owns assets across the city, faces a challenge as revenue streams are dispersed across depots and zones, making comprehensive monitoring difficult.
Speaking to The Hindu, a senior BMTC official said that the proposed platform is intended to bring all such data under one system. “BMTC intends to deploy a centralised tracking application that shows all the revenue generated by rentals from commercial stalls, open spaces, towers, ATM counters and advertisements, along with demand and collection status at the organisational level, with drill-down access from the Central Office to depots and individual assets,” the official said.
Transparency and efficiency
The CAMP system will enable BMTC to track not only how much revenue is generated, but also identify gaps in the collection and utilisation of assets. The official said that by integrating data across levels from central offices to individual depots, the platform is expected to improve transparency and efficiency in managing commercial operations.
“The scope of the project includes development, implementation, and commissioning of the software platform, along with a mobile application and hosting services. The selected service provider will also be responsible for maintaining the system and introducing modifications or additional features as required over time,” official explained
“The objective is to deploy IT tools in the best possible manner to optimise efficiency and reduce operational costs, while continuing to provide reliable and economical transport services,” the official added.
Non-traffic revenue
BMTC, which operates services across urban, suburban, and rural areas in and around Bengaluru, relies not only on passenger fares but also on commercial utilisation of its properties and spaces to generate additional income. However, without a unified system, monitoring these revenue streams in real time has been difficult, according to officials.
The BMTC currently operates 6,158 buses, of which 1,027 are electric. During the 2023-24 financial year, the corporation generated ₹811 crore in non-traffic revenue from sources such as land leasing, renting out space at bus terminals, commercial stalls, offices and parking areas, as well as advertisements on the rear panels of buses.
