Cleanliness is a collective responsibility, says Gajuwaka...

The district administration on Saturday (June 20, 2026) organised ‘Swachch Andhra – Swarna Andhra’ campaign at Ganesh Nagar in Vadlapudi under Gajuwaka zone in Visakhapatnam.

Gajuwaka MLA and TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao attended the programme as the chief guest and participated in the cleanliness activity following the call given by the State government.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA stated that the State government is implementing the prestigious ‘Swarna Andhra – Swachh Andhra’ programme across the State, in line with the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to provide a healthy, clean, and green environment for future generations. He called upon every citizen to treat cleanliness as a collective responsibility.

District Collector and GVMC Special Officer M. Abhishek Kishore announced that, under the programme, the fourth week of Operation Clean Sweep is being organised with the theme “Transforming GVPs into Green Spots.”

He stated that special awareness programmes are being conducted throughout the month to promote cleanliness among the public and encourage citizens to consider cleanliness as their personal responsibility. He noted that Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and citizens are actively partnering with the GVMC to transform identified black spots into green spots across all wards, setting an exemplary model of community participation.

He further stated that since the launch of the programme four weeks ago, activities have been conducted across the city, with particular focus on converting dark and neglected spots into clean and attractive public spaces.

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said that mass cleaning drives and special programmes in partnership with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) are being organised to enhance public awareness regarding sanitation.

As per the directions of the District Collector, around 600 additional sanitation workers have been deployed in various parts of the city for intensified sanitation management. He further explained that with the support of voluntary organisations 30 waste transportation vehicles have been mobilised to improve waste collection and transportation across different areas of the city, he said.

On the occasion, all participants took the Swachh Pledge, unveiled an awareness poster titled ‘Transforming GVPs into Green Spots’, felicitated outstanding sanitation workers, and participated in a cleanliness drive in the surrounding area, inspiring others through their actions.
