The Vizhinjam port in Kerala is witnessing a surge in activity, with around 100 vessels currently in queue or seeking berthing, according to Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor.
In a post on X, Dr. Tharoor said the increase in traffic comes amid disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which have shifted global shipping attention toward Thiruvananthapuram’s port. He pointed out that India’s first deep-water transshipment hub “is no longer just a project; it’s a global necessity”.
