The Anna Nagar police have arrested a 19-year-old man for assaulting a woman in Anna Nagar after she refused to accept his marriage proposal.
The victim, a resident of T.P. Chathiram, had been in a relationship with Vinoth, alias Stephen, of Maduravoyal, but later cut ties with him, the police said.
On the night of May 15, while she was walking near the Anna Nagar roundabout after work at a textile store, the accused allegedly intercepted her and verbally abused her.
He then assaulted and threatened to kill her and then fled the spot. The injured woman informed her father and received treatment at the Government Kilpauk Hospital. Based on her complaint, the Anna Nagar police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. Following this, Vinoth was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
