Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, Director-General, National Cadet Corps (NCC), interacted with NCC cadets at colleges in the city on Wednesday.
At D.G. Vaishnav College, Lt. Gen. Vats recognised cadets with five On Spot awards and released the annual NCC journal, Veeran 2026.
He also spoke about the initiatives undertaken by the NCC and its future projects.
“The gender balance in our country should be reflected in the NCC too. So, our major focus now is to improve the standard of our camps. Every group should have a dedicated training area that should be established by the State governments. After that, we build the infrastructure there — so it is a work in progress,” he said.
Lt. Gen. Vats also spoke about the newly launched Cyber Defender course which is under way at VIT Chennai.
“With this course, you can contribute to the country in times of need. Likewise, we have started drone training,” he said.
He said that many activities had also been planned by the NCC, including a cycling expedition from Colombo to Delhi.
“Meanwhile, we are strengthening our alumni network... We are also trying to expand our MOUs with more countries to broaden your horizons. Our aim is not only to prepare you for military, but also to prepare you for life,” he said.
