A five-year-old boy was killed and another child injured after a compound wall and gate of a house collapsed on them while they were playing near their residence in Bandikodigehalli, near Bagalur, on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Afrin. Another child, Samanvi, sustained injuries in the incident and was undergoing treatment.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 6.30 p.m. when three children were playing near a compound gate. While they were holding onto the wall during play, the compound wall suddenly gave way and collapsed on them, triggering panic in the locality.
Local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. However, Afrin succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
The house where the incident occurred belongs to Narasappa. Preliminary investigations revealed that the wall had reportedly developed cracks earlier, which may have weakened the structure and led to the collapse.
The police said Afrin’s father, Dawal Saab, a cab driver and native of Yadgir district, arrived in Bengaluru just five days ago with his wife and son. The family was staying at his sister’s house in Bandikodigehalli while he was searching for employment opportunities in the city.
The police have registered a case of death due to negligence against the owner of the house.
