The social security-welfare fund board pensions for this month will be disbursed from May 25. An amount of ₹1,070 crore has been sanctioned for this, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said.
There are nearly 60 lakh beneficiaries of the social security and welfare fund board pensions in the State. When the previous Left Democratic Front government had announced a ₹400-hike in the welfare pensions, taking them from ₹1,600 a month to ₹2,000, the financial burden rose to ₹1,050 crore a month.
Both the LDF and the UDF had promised in their manifestos for the Assembly elections to increase the welfare pensions to ₹3,000 a month.
