Election flying squad here on Friday (April 10) seized 112 kg of silver anklets that did not have valid documents.
The officials were checking vehicles at Anandha Bridge in the evening and stopped a car driven by Sundararajan, a resident of Shevapet who runs a silver anklet manufacturing unit. During the check, the officials found 112 kg of silver anklets worth ₹2.06 crore in the car.
Sundararajan was unable to produce valid documents for the anklets and claimed he was taking them to shops in Chennai. The officials, however, seized the anklets and handed them over to the district treasury. The Income Tax officials have also launched an investigation into the seizure.
Similarly, officials found 22 mobile phones in a car driven by Everest (52), a resident of Ramanathapuram district, during a vehicle check at Ondikadai in Yercaud on Friday. Since the devices had no proper documents, the officials seized them.
