Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav has approved proposals to upgrade medical infrastructure in three hospitals, falling under the Directorate of Secondary Health, to meet the medical needs of hundreds of devotees who are going to take part in the Godavari Pushkarams next year.

Following East Godavari District Collector’s request for improving medical facilities, Mr. Satya Kumar held discussions with the health officials on Wednesday (June 3) and approved various proposals with an outlay of ₹5.63 crore for upgrading and construction of additional infrastructure at the Area Hospital in Kovvuru and Community Health Centres (CHCs) in Nidadavolu and Mandapeta.

A press release from the department said the bed strength of the Mandapeta CHC would be upgraded to 100 from the existing 30, while work on the second floor of the hospital would be completed before the beginning of the pushkarams. An amount of ₹3.75 crore was earmarked for the hospital.

The Minister approved an outlay of ₹1 crore for various works at the Nidadavolu CHC, including construction of additional outpatient consultation rooms, 8 restrooms, and a 270-metre-long compound wall, laying of CC roads, installation of a generator and a borewell, and procurement of medical equipment and furniture.

At the Kovvuru Area Hospital, works costing ₹88 lakh would be carried out. These include fixing the damaged flooring, improvement of the drainage system, roof repairs, painting of the hospital building, installation of a new transformer and generator, repairs to existing bathrooms, and construction of new ones, and electrical wiring works.
