Anomalies and logical discrepancies ranging from parents’ name mismatch to illogical gap between progeny were discovered in case of about 38% of the voters who have been mapped as part of the preparatory exercise for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the Telangana state.

A total 11 anomalies were listed, which include: less than nine months gap between progeny, less than 15 years age gap between progeny and parent, less than 40 years age gap between elector and grandparent, different parent name between current roll and previous SIR, mapping done with different relative type between current roll and previous SIR (father/mother), mapped with father in the current roll and husband in the previous SIR, different father names in current roll and last SIR, incorrect age difference between current and last SIR, absence of any kind of document and Aadhaar being the sole document.

The Electoral Registration Officers will have the discretion with regard to the inclusion of the electors with anomalies, and they may issue notices to the voter to appear in person with relevant documents to prove their electoral identity. A total of 12 documents were listed, but the list is not exhaustive, Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy informed a media conference he addressed on Saturday (June 20).

The highest percentage of electors with anomalies — at 65% of the total voters mapped — was found in the Medchal Malkajgiri district where the mapping was the lowest at 43.67%. A total of 13 lakh electors were mapped against the district’s total 29.79 lakh as per the 2025 rolls, and anomalies were discovered in case of more than 8.45 lakh electors.

In absolute figures, Ranga Reddy district recorded the highest number of electors with anomalies — over 11.44 lakh out of the 21.71 lakh mapped electors, which accounts for 52.7%. The total number of electors in this district is close to 37 lakh, and mapping has been completed with respect to 58.68%.

No other district is even closer in comparison, with the next highest percentage of anomalies at over 44% recorded in Narayanpet district. The lowest anomalies were recorded in Khammam district at 19.25%, against 77% completion of mapping. Mapping reached 46.69% in Hyderabad with 39% entries anomalous.

With 94.54%, Mahbubabad district topped the list with the highest mapped electors, followed by Jangaon at 93.44%.

Overall, the pre-SIR mapping was completed with regard to 70.54% voters, out of a total 3,38,26,448 registered voters as per the 2025 voters’ list. Over 99.64 lakh voters remained unmapped, of whom more than 57 lakh are in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts alone which fully/partly constitute the state capital region.
