A Panchayat Secretary, identified as Gaddam Raju Goud, of Komuravelli village in Siddipet district, was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials while allegedly accepting a ₹10,000 bribe for carrying out an official favour.
According to the ACB, he was trapped on Sunday at around 4.40 p.m. at the Gram Panchayat office.
Officials said that the accused had allegedly demanded the bribe for facilitating removal of a drainage pipeline laid by the Gram Panchayat through the complainant’s plot in Komuravelli village.
The bribe amount was allegedly accepted through Gollapalli Anjaneyulu, husband of the village sarpanch, who was also taken into custody.
The tainted cash was recovered from his possession during the operation.
The ACB said preliminary investigation indicated that the accused had acted improperly and dishonestly in discharging public duty to obtain undue advantage.
Both accused are being produced before the II Additional Special Judge for trial of SPE and ACB cases in Hyderabad.
The case is under investigation. The identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.
The ACB urged citizens facing bribery demands from public servants to report the matter through its toll-free helpline 1064 or through its official social media platforms.
